Fall In Love With Flash Point: Fire Rescue Board Game Free Find On Craigslist

I recently was able to grab some great finds in the "for sale/free" section of craigslist for my area.  A very nice individual near me offered up a few games for free.  Here is one of the finds:

Flash Point: Fire Rescue is a cooperative game of fire rescue.

There are two versions of game play in Flash Point, a basic game and expert game.
In both variants, players are attempting to rescue 7 of 10 victims from a raging building fire.
As the players attempt to rescue the victims, the fire spreads to other parts of the building, causing structural damage and possibly blocking off pathways through the building. Each turn a player may spend action points to try to extinguish fires, move through the building, move victims out of the building or perform various special actions such as moving emergency vehicles. If 4 victims perish in the blaze or the building collapses from taking too much structural damage, the players lose. Otherwise, the players win instantly when they rescue a 7th victim.

The expert variant included in the game adds thematic elements such as flash over, combustible materials, random setup, and variations on game difficulty from novice to heroic. The game includes a double sided board with two different building plans and several expansion maps are available.

Flash Point : Fire Rescue sounds like really fun game! FP:FR is a co-op game similar to pandemic,  albeit a bit simpler.  Playing in the basic mode might be best for younger children, introducing the board gaming hobby to newbies, or just a solid game for family game night.

80's D&D Cartoon Revival? Kinda...

I could get behind this except...  Its for a damn car commercial! WTF.  While well done in almost every aspect, its just wrong to use this decent cast and cgi, for a car commercial.  How about new stories, with this same level of detail and casting!!!  Id watch the hell out of that!!!

FREE : CCG Sorting Box Made from Foam Core Laser Cutter Plans

So I found this file on thingiverse, by BTSculptor . However his file doesn't include how to build the box, is a bit cluttered, e.g,  has an extra piece that is'nt needed.  After testing it out, after sorting, getting the cards out can be tricky as there is no finger slot.  So I added in a finger slot, and organized the file a bit.   This sorting box should be able to handle most regular ccgs sizes, like Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, etc., with and without card sleeves.

I used a laser cutter, but you could do this with a vinyl/craft cutting machine like the cricut or cameo machines, or even just print out the pieces you need and glue them to the foam core, or cardboard.

The blue line is a score and on my glowforge the settings I used were 200 speed 25 power.  This cuts through the top layer of the paper and into the foam but not the backing paper forming a hinge.

The rest of the lines should all be set for a cut operation, which on the glowforge is 200 speed and 60 power.  This will give you a good clean cut and minimal charring.

You'll need one short piece, 3 divider pieces, 2 edge pieces, and 4 card slot hinged pieces.

Top Secret: New World Order - The Espionage Roleplaying Game, ITs BACK! WOOT!

So I've been trying to cut down on the number of kickstarters I've been doing lately, so much that I only have one left (a 3d resin phone based printer the ONO).   But when I saw this post I had to back it!  You can find it on Kickstarter here: Top Secret: New World Order - the espionage roleplaying game by Merle M. Rasmussen!!!

I have most of the modules and all of the editors of the original Top Secret Game made by T$R (TSR) back in the day and loved playing the game, I've even used their combat matrix for martial arts/unarmed combat in a few other table top games.  It was a fun system and was one of the few that made you feel as if you were a "real" spy.  I'm glad to see it getting rebooted.   I've tried a few of the other systems for espionage rpgs when the d20 system was released, but none ever caught my attention like the original Top Secret!

Whoa! Gary Gygax's FBI File Is An Interesting Read!

Apparently the FBI had a file on our beloved DM of yore, Gary Gygax!  Over at Reason.com they have an article about, with a snippet of Gary's FBI file(shown after the break), which was originally obtained using the freedom of information act request by journalist CJ Ciaramella:

How To Build The Q-workshop / Pathfinder Dice Tower!!!

Way back in October 2015, I backed a Q-workshop / Pathfinder Kickstarter for a set of metal polyhedral dice, because as many of my friends/family/readers know, I'm absolutely mad when it comes to dice! I love almost all types of dice, well all dice except for those damn wooden dice, but that is another blog post entirely.

So I backed the kickstarter and it finally arrived in Sept of 2016! Yay! Only 6 months off the target date! :( Ah, Kickstarter the only place where you can miss your target delivery date without consequence, or not deliver at all and keep all the cash! (ask me about a failed kickstarter 3d resin printer and a house in Canada!) 

I chose the $69.00 level of rewards, which included a set of "lead free" metal polyhedral dice, the review of the dice set is coming soon, and any stretch goals unlocked.  The "free" goals unlocked were a set of green "Goblin" polyhedral dice, a linen bag, and a laser cut dice tower!  

A dice tower is used when rolling dice to help "randomize" the dice results during a game, e.g., The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Dungeons And Dragons, but it really can be used for any game with dice.

While the pictures on the provided sheet DO show you how to build the dice tower, its pretty straight forward, there isn't any text explaining the steps in detail.  So here is a little walk through my own building of the dice tower, along with a few tips and tools that I used...

Card Games : Cards Against Humanity : NIGHT SIX TO EIGHT - EIGHT SENSIBLE GIFTS FOR HANUKKAH

Its Christmas in July! I mean Hanukkah in August!  So yah, I'm just now getting around to posting those remaining days of the Cards Against Humanity's Eight Sensible Gifts For Hanukkah, that I was promising all the way back in December of last year!  Cheese and crackers am I lazy!

Card Games : Cards Against Humanity : NIGHT FIVE - EIGHT SENSIBLE GIFTS FOR HANUKKAH

Its that time of year again where Cards Against Humanity offers their take on the holidays, whichever holiday they choose to "honor".

The First Night we received SOCKS!, The Second Night, we received SOCKS! The Third Night, yup!, Socks! Night Four CAH threw us a curveball and actually supplied us with new cards, BUT NO SOCKS! Grrrr.  I really want the set of eight days of socks, but alas I fear no more socks...

Oh well Night Five arrived, finally! Yes, I know Hanukkah is over and Christmas is almost here! Still waiting on those last three nights CAH and USPS!  Anyhow, Same envelope, yadda, yadda, yadda, yep,  its again:

*Drum roll*  BOOM! Field notes, one notebook,  and another letter of advice. That's it!   Field notes comes in packs of three for 9.99 typically.  Ok, fine, they gave the money for this day to support NPR and we get a year sub to some chicago station, fine... (still a bit hurt about no socks)

SOCKS!  Wait. WTF! No Socks? No SOCKS!? Where are my SOCKS!? I WANT, NoO!, I NEED!, the other pair of SOCKS, all with the a tiny menorah, with the a progression of candle/oil lighting, NOW!!!  WHERE ARE  MY FUCKING SOCKS CAH!  Damnit!  Not only did this night arrive late, Its Dec 14th for gawds sakes, Hanukkah IS OVER!  

*huffs off in a mad fit*

*stomps back after 15 minutes of simmering*
